This week NIFHA staff attended the Alpha Housing Christmas Craft Fayre at its Carr’s Court sheltered scheme in Belfast.
Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed to the scheme. Housing Manager, Roisin and her elves ensured every member of our team had a hot cup of tea or coffee and something sweet to eat.
Alpha supported their tenants to make a wide selection of craft items for the event, these included tea light holders, pictures and knitted snowmen, one of which was adopted by our Practice Officer, Paul.
The event raised over £1,700 for the Association’s nominated charities – the Northern Ireland Hospice and Southern Area Hospice Services. This may have been more if NIFHA’s resident bargain hunter Rachel had more time to part with her hard-earned cash.
People came from far and wide to support the event including representatives from sheltered schemes in Belfast, Portstewart, Carrickfergus, Portadown, Moira, Crumlin and Comber. Scheme Manager, Mary ensured that nobody left with an empty stomach. Michael, our Policy Officer, particularly enjoyed the homemade cheesecake!
Before we left, Chief Executive, Billy Graham gave the NIFHA team a tour of Carr’s Court, we were struck by the positivity of the staff and the sense of community amongst tenants.
Reflecting on the event, Roisin said “we were really touched by the generosity and the distance people travelled to support the fayre. Everyone had a great day and there was a real fun and family atmosphere at the event.”
