Residents from Clanmil Housing’s developments in Belfast, Country Antrim and County Down helped celebrate the Association’s 40th anniversary on Thursday, July 27th at a massive family fun day in Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Park, Belfast.
More than 300 tenants from the 1,700 homes which Clanmil provides in these areas came along to enjoy an It’s-a-Knock-Out competition, a petting farm, first aid demonstrations, face painting, music and a barbecue.
Tim O’Malley, Clanmil’s community development manager, said: “Forty years is a real landmark occasion and we want to make sure that all of our tenants have an opportunity to join our anniversary celebrations. Today has been great fun and has brought our tenants together with friends, neighbours and Clanmil staff to celebrate 40 years of fantastic homes.
“And we’re doing it all over again in Dungannon in August, so that families living in the rest of our neighbourhoods throughout Northern Ireland can join in the celebrations too.”
Clanmil has been providing high quality, affordable homes for people who need them since March 1977. Today the organisation employs 260 people and owns and manages almost 4,500 homes throughout Northern Ireland for families, older people and for those who need support. Clanmil has recently embarked on an ambitious new homes development programme that will see some 1,800 additional homes provided, to rent or to buy, over the next five years.
Clanmil chair, Steve Amos, told NIFHA: “Over the past 40 years Clanmil has grown to become one of Northern Ireland’s leading housing associations, providing homes, services and support for a wide range of people.
“Throughout that time our passion for great homes and the people who live in them has never wavered. Forty years, on we still believe that everyone should have a comfortable, safe and affordable home within a vibrant and supportive community where they love living and can thrive.”
Throughout its anniversary year, Clanmil is celebrating with tenants, staff and stakeholders across Northern Ireland.
Steve commented: “While there’s lots of birthday cake and fun planned, we’re determined that there will also be a legacy from this milestone. We have launched a 40 Lasting Legacies programme that will provide work placements, apprenticeships, community action and small grants that we hope will leave a permanent mark on the communities we work in.
“Our #RealClanmilLives social media campaign is also running throughout the year telling the life stories of people who live in our homes and showing the diversity of our tenants. We hope it will also highlight how important a home is for everyone.”
