NIFHA Press Room
General Election 2010
Monday 26 April 2010
This section of our Press Room will keep you up-to-date on affordable housing and the General Election 2010.Although much of housing is a devolved matter some aspects remain locked in to what happens at Westminster. Therefore it is vital our prospective MPs and their parties remain informed and supportive of the provision of affordable housing in their constituencies.
Keeping Housing at the forefront of candidates’ minds
The Northern Ireland Federation of Housing Associations (NIFHA), in conjunction with the other housing federations in the UK and our members, drew together a number of UK-wide housing challenges and developed an Election 2010 Manifesto.
We call on candidates to:
- Ensure the independent and voluntary nature of housing associations remains.
At a UK-wide level we ask for:
- New supply to avoid a further housing crisis
- Action on Climate change
- Promotion of Financial Inclusion
At a Northern Ireland level we call for:
- Facilitation of Labour Mobility
- Reform of Public Procurement
