What we do

What we do

NIFHA is the representative body for housing associations in Northern Ireland. Our 20 members manage more than 50,000 homes, including family accommodation, sheltered and supported housing and shared ownership homes.

Housing associations have a growing role in Northern Ireland, providing:

  • New social and affordable housing
  • High-quality landlord services with a focus on tenancy sustainment
  • Care and support for people with learning difficulties, dementia, physical disabilities and mental health issues
  • Investment in communities such as community centres, play facilities and health and well-being initiatives
  • Financial advice and access to affordable credit for tenants
  • Training, apprenticeships and employment opportunities


To support this role, NIFHA provides a wide range of services to our members, including:

  • Representing the sector to policy makers and key decision makers
  • Representing the sector in local, regional and national media
  • Policy development, advocacy and lobbying for the best possible delivery environment for housing
  • Support and training for members
  • Delivery of high quality sector specific conferences, networking events and training programme for members and non-members
  • Support for members’ staff across all levels, on a range of practical issues
  • Support for the effective engagment of members with local and regional statutory bodies and elected representatives
  • Research and statistics support for members including benchmarking
  • Sector specific information, reports and publications
  • A high-quality communications service
