South Ulster Housing Association was formed in 1978 as Portadown Housing Association. From then it has grown to be one of the most important community based housing associations in Northern Ireland.
At present South Ulster Housing Association has over 1,000 units. The association has expanded the boundaries of its operational base to include not onlyArmagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council but Newry, Mourne and Down District Council and Mid Ulster District Council
The association was initially formed to purchase and rehabilitate derelict houses; however, the needs of the community have led to diversification into the provision of special needs bungalows, apartments and general family needs.
