NB’s Flax Foyer and a resident recently scooped two important awards.

Well done to the team at Flax Foyer, an NB Housing supported accommodation scheme for young people, which received a Bytes award for their contribution to the Exodus 500 Programme 2015-2018.

The Foyer team have worked in partnership with Bytes for many years to provide training opportunities for residents.

The Bytes Exodus 500 project supported young people, aged 16-25 who were excluded from or disadvantaged in the labour market.  The project aimed to overcome multiple barriers to employment faced by young people in today’s society, provide them with the opportunity to gain new skills, experiences and training opportunities.

‘I felt my time with Bytes really opened my eyes to all the different things that go on around the world and I gained different qualifications that will help me get a job in the future’.
– Josh, Flax Foyer resident

Congratulations also to Foyer resident Brendan Conn who won a community leader award as part of the Flax Trust Community leadership awards.

‘I volunteer at St Patrick’s soup kitchen on a Friday and Saturday night from 7-11pm.  This makes me feel amazing for helping others who are in need of food, clothing and toiletries.  I also help out with the Outreach service which involves going out and feeding the homeless on the streets and provide sleeping bags for those who need them.  Doing this type of work has changed my views on what to do with my life and I have met amazing new friends.  Winning the award has made me feel amazing and proud.  My family are very happy as am I’.
