Gortgole Fold Goes Potty Over The Green Gym
Gortgole Fold tenants welcomed the Green Gym’s decision to create a community garden at their scheme. This partnership between the tenants at Gortgole Fold and the Volunteers at the Green Gym has them working together to transform the garden into a scenic useable space; with raised beds for growing vegetables; wild planting and treed areas to encourage wildlife; re-potting of the schemes many planters into new half barrels; and seating areas for the tenants their friends and families to enjoy this new garden, after all their hard work has been completed!
Becky from the Green Gym explained
“This project will create opportunities for more people to enjoy the health benefits of gardening and nature. The garden’s features have been designed to maximise accessibility, to add opportunities for recreation, and to enhance wildlife value. We’re proud to be doing this here in Portglenone, and to be creating what we hope will be a lasting partnership between Portglenone Green Gym and Gortgole Fold tenants”.
Becky continued “It has taken a while to get the project off the ground and we still have a lot of hard work in front of us. However, I hope everyone will see the benefit when the garden is in full leaf and bloom this summer. Everyone who participates in this community garden project should take a lot of pride in their involvement – whether they contributed ideas, knowledge, skills or muscle power.”
Bridie Doherty, Area Housing Manager at Fold Housing Association, “It is great to see the community of Portglenone coming together to help create this garden for our tenants to enjoy. Special thanks to the Men’s Shed who kindly donated their time and skills in building these new raised beds. I look forward to returning in the next few months to celebrate the opening of our new garden, and nurturing this new local partnership working which we have created at Gortgole Fold.”
