Published on: 11 May, 2015

Renee Crawford of Lenadoon Community Forum today officially cut the first sod to launch the development by Clanmil Housing of 64 family homes near Colin Glen Forest Park on the Glen Road in Belfast.

The development, when completed, will provide 13 four bedroom houses, 33 three bedroom houses and 18 two bedroom houses and is being built by Clanmil Housing Association with part funding from the Northern Ireland Executive through the Department for Social Development.

Welcoming the new homes Ms Crawford said: “These are much needed family homes in an area of high demand.  Lenadoon Community Forum has and will continue to work with Clanmil to ensure the needs of families in this area are met through the provision of quality lifetime social housing and the community infrastructure required by those who will live in this new housing development”

Energy efficiency features including a heat recovery system, triple glazing and high levels of insulation will help reduce heating and energy bills for the families who live in the new homes.  In addition, all of the homes have been designed to Secured by Design and Lifetime Homes standards, ensuring added security for tenants and flexibility of adaptation if required at a later date.

A significant central green area including play space will be included in the development.

Steve Amos, Chair of the Clanmil Housing Group said:“Clanmil is committed to providing high quality, affordable homes that really meet people’s needs and we are delighted to see work start on the construction of these new homes. Well designed houses and low running costs, combined with space to play, will make this development the perfect place to raise a family.

“We are grateful to the local community and elected representatives who worked with us to bring this scheme to this stage. We look forward to welcoming families to their new homes in Spring 2017 and to continuing our partnership with the local community and their representatives to make this a great place to live.”
