Abbeyfield & Wesley Carrickfergus House scoops national award
More than 4000 residents from nearly 360 specialist housing schemes helped choose the award winners in a unique process overseen by the national housing charity for older people, Elderly Accommodation Counsel (EAC). The residents score their housing scheme on a variety of statements relating to both the quality of the property and the care, support and general sense of wellbeing they enjoy there.
House Manager, Catherine Rosbotham, said: “I am so pleased that the Carrickfergus Abbeyfield house has received this award, especially as it was based on the views of residents and that means a lot to me.”
The award ceremony was held at the Hilton in Manchester with the awards presented by media star Ann Widdecombe. Unfortunately, due to cost and time restrictions, staff from Abbeyfield were not in a position to attend this event, however, this achievement was recognised locally when the certificate was presented by Mayor of Mid & East Antrim Borough Council, Councillor Billy Ashe, at a coffee morning in the Carrickfergus house.
At the event, Peter Howard, Abbeyfield & Wesley Vice Chairman, said: “This award is a reflection of the hard work and dedication of staff and it is great that, through the residents’ input in this competition, the excellent support and lifestyle which can be enjoyed by older people in Abbeyfield houses has been recognised.”
