NIFHA’s Chief Executive Cameron Watt has called on more public land to be made available by the Northern Ireland Executive to accelerate house building, during an interview with Wendy Austin on BBC Inside Business.

In response to the Autumn Statement and Spending Review, Cameron Watt released a full statement and speaking on BBC Inside Business he commented that housing associations are currently not able to access a large number of sites to build the homes needed.

He explained that to help kick-start our economy and create jobs, it is vital that the NI Executive makes public land available to allow local housing associations to develop more homes of all types and tenures.

“In spite of all the brownfield sites that we have all over Northern Ireland, we’re really not being able to get hold of those to build the homes that are needed.

“We’d like to see a big focus from the whole of the Northern Ireland Executive on setting binding targets in the next programme for government to get that land brought forward for all types of housing. Let’s get the homes built, let’s get Northern Ireland building,” he commented.
